I may be bias but my wedding bouquet was quite possibly one of the most beautiful things I have ever set eyes on. I carried it around as much as I could on my wedding day (boy was it heavy hehe) and I couldn’t stop gazing at it, not to mention enjoying it’s scent. When the end of the day arrived I felt sad that I would never again get to carry around a bunch of stunning blooms (pretty sure your wedding is the only day you can get away with it right?). I realised I didn’t have a plan and popped them into a vase of water to enjoy for as long as they would last. The day I had to part with them was a sad one, and so I wanted to keep a memento. Here’s how I preserved and enjoy my wedding flowers 6 months on…

Pressing Flowers

First up, I pressed some blooms. I have a flower pressing kit, but you can recreate your own. Simply place your chosen petals into your press or place between specialist paper and heavy books. Following the drying process I glued down the blooms onto paper and framed them. I think I could have had better results with mine, but you know what, it’s about what they represent rather than how they look to me.

Drying Flowers

I also loved my flower crown, and it’s still hanging in my living room, the same spot I left it. It’s dried out beautifully and I adore it. My bouquet was too large to achieve this with, but I have heard of specialist freeze drying companies out there that can do it all for you. Something I wish I had know about previously as I would definitely have looked into this.

Alternative Bouquet

If you think of using an alternative to flowers for your bouquet, it will of course last forever. Whether you use treasured brooches and buttons, paper or fabric flowers, you can display your creation with pride for years to come. You could even pass it on in the future. I added pom poms and ribbons to my bouquet which I have also kept and display.

Re-plant

Choose plants and blooms which can live after your wedding day. Speak with your florist about the options. You could think about take cuttings or seeds from stems or use succulents and air plants to re-pot. It’s the perfect option for an eco, nature friendly flower arrangement.

Frame a Photo

If you have an awesome photographer booked you can be sure they will get a super duper shot of your blooms. Frame it and hang it somewhere special. Celebrate the details not just the portraits, it will take you back to your day in an instant.

Art

Finally, I was contacted by a wonderful illustrator who kindly gifted me a painting of my bouquet. How lovely is that? It would make a perfect first anniversary gift, I can’t wait to frame and display mine.
